Grade Appeals
Formal Course Grade Appeals
A student has the right to appeal a final grade earned in a course within two years of its issuance. It is recommended that students discuss their final course grade with the Instructor of Record prior to submitting a formal course grade appeal.
- First level of appeal is to the Instructor of Record
- Second level of appeal is to the Department Chair/Director
- Final level of appeal is to the Dean of the College (in which the course resides)
Administrative Withdrawals/Drops (Grade of "W") Appeals
University Policy G/PPS No. 02.08 states that Deans may grant an Administrative Withdrawal/Drop (grade of W) after final grades have posted for students that present documentation of extremely extenuating circumstances that prevented them from successfully completing the coursework. The appeal for an administrative withdrawal/drop must be filed no later than two years after the grade was issued.
- To request an administrative withdrawal (grades of W) for all courses within a given semester appeal to the College Dean for your major.
- To request an administrative drop (grade of W) for a single course or multiple courses, but not all courses in a semester, appeal to the College Dean where the course(s) resides.
